Food Services celebrates National Farm to School Month at Vogel-Wetmore School

Oct 7, 2022

Food Services hosted an event in celebration of CT Grown For CT Kids Week and National Farm to School Month as a recipient of the CT Grown for CT Kids Grant.

Food Services hosted an event in celebration of CT Grown For CT Kids Week (October 3 -7, 2022) and National Farm to School Month at Vogel-Wetmore School as a recipient of the CT Grown for CT Kids Grant. The farm-to-school initiative supports EdAdvance and Torrington Food Services’ use of locally sourced produce from the NWCT Food Hub for school lunch. Vogel-Wetmore School is one of six Torrington Schools being provided local produce from the hub.

The event included a visit from NWCT Food Hub partner and farmer Stephen Kassel of Chanticleer Acres Farm in Litchfield and State Representative, Michelle Cook. Attendees were greeted by Kassel and Representative Cook, while students were able to enjoy salad with lettuce from Chanticleer Acres Farm and apples from March Farm in Bethlehem.

A total of 15 schools are expected to be receiving local produce by the end of the school year. More information about this initiative can be found at www.ctfarmtoschool.org.
